Although some of these sites also contain shareware or full featured programs that you have to pay for, a considerable amount is absolutely free. Several of the sites have a sorting feature that enables you to just view the freeware.

This wonderful site also contains pay-for material so after clicking onto a major category, go to the bottom right of the page and click on freeware and you will just see all the freeware in that category. I have used this site extensively.

I have never seen any viruses in any of the material I have downloaded from these sites, but I strongly recommend as good practice to keep your virus protectors up to date just in case.
